The Center for Karst and Speleology consists of a team of motivated citizens whose work is based on voluntary engagement and scientific research in the field of environmental protection and education, which are mainly focused on the unique and distinctive features of karst areas.
The idea to establish the Center came from a few experienced members with a high educational profile, who promote and encourage the training of younger members of the Center in Bosnia and Herzegovina and abroad, as well as a proper approach to the management of karst areas by the state sector and, in general, civil society.
The center currently has three members who hold the title of doctor of science, two of whom defended their doctoral dissertations in Slovenia in the field of karst science, and two members who are in doctoral postgraduate studies in the field of karst science. Other members of the Center are experts in the fields of biology, hydrology, geography, chemistry, etc.
The members of the Center can count on the cooperation they have with non-governmental organizations and institutions of a similar profile in Bosnia and Herzegovina and abroad, which support our project and are ready to share their knowledge and experience.
The center was originally formed as a speleological society “Speleo Dodo”, which in 2010 grew into the Center for Karst and Speleology in order to orientate and direct towards a more professional strategy of research and study of karst areas. The center is currently divided into three sections; one that deals with physical speleology, the second with biospeleology, and the third with karst heritage research.
